Privacy Policy for Erik Jacobs History Project

What the app does

The Erik Jacobs History Project is developing methods for referencing Facebook permalinks reliably inside a personal knowledgebase: resolving a permalink to a stable post identifier, indexing the post's public text and timestamp, and retrieving it later for historical research. It is a research tool built and operated by one person, the app's administrator, Erik Jacobs.

What data is accessed

The app is currently in development mode. During this phase it accesses only content owned by the app administrator, Erik Jacobs: public Facebook permalinks he has posted, their post IDs, and the associated public metadata (timestamps and the public text of those posts), retrieved through the Facebook Graph API using the administrator's own login. The name on every permalink used during development is the same name on this policy.

No data from any other Facebook user is accessed, collected, or stored during the development phase. The app does not read friends lists, messages, private posts, or any content belonging to anyone other than its administrator.

How the data is used

The data is used solely to test and refine methods for referencing, indexing, and retrieving the administrator's own public history content for personal archival purposes. It is not used for analytics, advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose, and it is not used to train machine-learning models.

Where the data goes, and for how long

Data retrieved by the app is stored locally on hardware the administrator controls. It is not shared, sold, or disclosed to any third party. It is retained only as long as it is needed for development of the knowledgebase, and is deleted when it is no longer needed for that purpose.

Data deletion instructions

Because only the administrator's own public content is used during development, no other Facebook user's data is held by this app. If you believe the app holds data associated with you, or you want any data associated with your Facebook account removed, you can request deletion in either of these ways:

1. By email. Send a request to erik.jacobs@gmail.com with the subject line "Erik Jacobs History Project — data deletion request." Include the Facebook name or profile URL the request concerns. Any associated data will be deleted within 30 days, and you will receive a confirmation by reply.
2. Through Facebook. Open Facebook Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites, find Erik Jacobs History Project, and choose Remove. Removing the app revokes its access; a deletion request sent through that flow is honored on the same 30-day schedule.

If the app ever expands beyond the administrator's own content to access other users' data, this policy will be updated first and the app will be submitted for Facebook App Review before any such access begins.

grettir.ai collects nothing

The rest of grettir.ai is a static demonstration site for the open-source Editorial Council project. It has no accounts, no upload forms, no analytics, no advertising, and sets no cookies of its own. The site is served through Render and Cloudflare, whose servers keep ordinary access logs (IP address, requested page, user agent) for operational purposes under their own privacy policies; the site operator does not use those logs to identify or track visitors.

Terms of use for the app and this site

The Erik Jacobs History Project is a personal, non-commercial research application. It is in development, is operated for the sole use of its administrator, and is not offered to the public as a service. The app and this website are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, and the operator accepts no liability arising from their use. The Facebook data the app touches remains subject to Facebook's own Terms of Service and Platform Terms. These terms and this policy are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the project develops. The effective date at the top of the page will change whenever it does, and the current version is always the one published at grettir.ai/privacy.
